Wall Stabilization

Bowed basement or foundation walls occur as a result of soil load pushing against the wall. Compounded with depth and other factors and the lateral forces surpass the foundation’s original resistance to these loads.  Over time, these factors can produce lateral bending and the foundation or basement wall becomes bowed  this condition also produces significant cracking.  If left unattended this condition will worsen with time jeopardizing both the structural integrity and the resale value of the property.

Bowed basement or foundation walls can be straightened but require excavation of foundation, lifting the weight of the structure off of the wall and pushing the wall back to as close to plumb as possible. Even after this is accomplished, the wall itself has lost the structural integrity and requires reinforcement. You can also reinforce a bowed concrete foundation or basement wall that is still within tolerance at it’s current condition without straightening. Historically, I-beams were used to correct a bowed basement or foundation wall by erecting the beams in a fashion that provides lateral concrete reinforcement. While remaining an effective method, installation can be expensive and the end result are obtrusive beams sticking out from the wall. In addition, the cracks which have undoubtedly occurred as a result of the bowed basement or foundation wall are not addressed.

Tri-State Basement Waterproofing uses Fortress Stabilization Systems to repair wall. Fortress Stabilization Systems has developed a Carbon Fiber/Kevlar grid that will halt any further movement of a block or concrete wall. It will do it easily, safely, and without any outside excavation. The grid lies flat against the wall and when painted over are hardly noticeable. Your wall will NEVER bow or crack again. Using advanced carbon fiber technology, these systems protect the life and value of your home investment.

Dampness and Mold

The basement is different than any other part of your home. Basements are generally subterranean, so they’re naturally damp and prone to moisture. This is a breeding ground for mold, mildew, unpleasant basement odors and can be a source of rodent and insect infiltration. Keeping humidity down reduces the chance for mold. To grow. In general, mold will not grow at less than 50% relative humidity! The first step is always to eliminate the source of the water entry by using one of our patented products such as: the Water Boss Sump Basin, Wall Trak, Fieldstone Conduit, or Floor Grate. Dehumidification is the key.

Excess moisture on almost all indoor materials leads to growth of microbes, such as mold, fungi and bacteria, which subsequently emit spores, cells, fragments and volatile organic compounds in indoor air. Moreover, dampness initiates chemical or biological degradation of materials, which also pollute indoor air. Dampness has therefore been suggested to be strong, consistent indicator of risk of asthma and respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough and wheeze). The health risks of biological contaminants of indoor air could thus be addressed by considering dampness as the risk indicator.

Water In the Basement

Basement Leaks

Basement leaks not only make life miserable, cause damage to contents producing mold, mildew, and expensive repairs to your structure.  Basement walls should seal out a moderate amount of water, but few will withstand a great deal of water pressure.  If the basement leaks only during heavy rains, this can lead to basement flooding, and the proliferation of mold and mildew.  This not only compromises your house’s structural integrity, it also is a health hazard to you and your family.

Water Coming Down the Wall

Over time, even in new homes, basement foundations give away to the pressures of ground water building up.  Water always seeks out the weakest parts of foundations, what starts out as a leak can eventually lead to full-blown flooding, which can potentially cost you thousands of dollars in repair costs.  Nip your leaking walls in the bud before you have a flooded basement on your hands.

Chronically Flooding Basement

All wet basement problems can be solved but first you must determine the source of the leak.  How do I tell where the water is coming in?  Let’s look at the 6 potential source points: visible floor cracking, wall crack or pipe insertion, window, bulkhead, sill plate, floor wall joint.  Look at these at the start of a rainstorm and keep checking.  If there is more than 1/2″ of water on the entire floor – most likely it is coming from the floor wall joint.

Independent research and testing prove that basement water originates from in front of the footing, as well as from the foundation wall seam.
